Membership Term

The undersigned also agrees to utilize their specialty only in the areas of his or her expertise and in accordance with applicable law, to maintain the highest ethical and professional standards as well as those issued by the Institute of Professional Psychologists, and to keep the interest and welfare of those who seek his or her help above all other considerations. Please read below.

Membership

1. The Institute shall consist of Fellows, Hony. Members, Diplomate Members, Members and Associate Members all of whom are collectively referred to as Corporate Members. The Institute may also have attached to it Affiliates, Service Subscribers and Students all of whom are collectively referred to as Non-Corporate Members.

2. The names of all Corporate and Non-Corporate Members shall be entered on the Roll of the Institute (hereafter referred to as "the Roll"). A Member who changes his name shall thereupon inform the Secretary stating his former name and the Secretary shall amend the Roll accordingly.

3. Corporate Members of the Institute in the various grades shall be entitled to the exclusive use after their names the following abbreviated designations appropriated to their respective grades -

Fellows - F.Inst.Psy

Diplomate   Members - D.Inst.Psy
Hony. Members - Hony. M.Inst.Psy
Members - M.Inst.Psy
Associate Members - A.M.Inst.Psy

4. Non-Corporate members shall not have the right to vote at Annual General or Special General Meetings or to requisition or to join in requisitioning any Special General Meeting of the Institute or to hold office or to be appointed a Member of any of the Committees of the Council.



FELLOWS

1. Fellowship may be conferred upon Members who have rendered distinguished service to the profession or the INSTITUTE OF PROFESSIONAL PSYCHOLOGISTS. Such Fellowship shall carry the designating letters F.Inst.Psy. The awards of Fellowship shall at all times be at the discretion of the Executive Committee (EC) with a maximum of four such Fellowships being awarded in any one year.  Fellows shall comprise of every person who has been elected or transferred into the class of Fellow and whose name appears on the Roll of the Institute as such. Every candidate for election or transfer to the class of Fellow shall satisfy the EC that:

(a) he has been on the Roll of the Institute in the class of Member for a continuous period of at least 3 years, and

(b) he possesses not less than 10 years post qualification experience in the field of Psychology.

(c) he should have a minimum of 3 years CPD (Continuous Professional Development) to support his application eligibility at the time of application. All Applications supported by comprehensive Bio-data including details of CPD claimed should be submitted to the Hony. Secretary.

 


DIPLOMATE MEMBERS

2. Diplomate Membership shall be open to those who have met the requirements for Full Membership and have also completed any additional requirements set by the INSTITUTE OF PROFESSIONAL PSYCHOLOGISTS (e.g. Examination, Dissertation, etc.,). The designated letters shall be D.Inst.Psy.  

 


MEMBERS

3. Full Membership shall be open to persons who are holders of a Bachelors Degree in Psychology / Advanced Diploma in Psychology from a training organisation approved by the EC and who have obtained such a Practitioner Diploma as shall be determined by resolution of the EC. Full Members are entitled to use the designating letters M.Inst.Psy.  Members shall comprise of every person who has been elected or transferred to the class of Member so long as his name is on the Roll as such. Every candidate for election or transfer to the class of Member shall satisfy the EC that:

(a) he possesses not less than 05 years post qualification experience in the field of Psychology.

(b) he had been continuously on the Roll of the Institute as an Associate Member for a period of at least 3 years, and

(c) he should have a minimum of 3 years CPD to support his eligibility at the time of his application.

ASSOCIATE MEMBER

4. Associate Membership shall be automatically available to persons who are holders of a Diploma in Psychology from a training organisation approved by the EC. Such Membership shall carry the designating letters A.M.Inst.Psy and shall be available for a maximum of four years from the date of the award of the Diploma. If the Associate Member has not graduated for Full Membership within the permitted four year period, then such Associate Membership shall be forfeited. 

(a) he has obtained the Diploma in Psychology / Advanced Diploma in Counselling Psychology or is a Passed Finalist in the Psychology course conducted by the Institute, or

(b) he holds an equivalent qualification or Degree in Psychology from a recognized University which will have to be verified and accredited for certification of prior learning up to part II of the IPP professional exams. Exemptions may be granted to those with a Masters or higher degree from a recognized university, at the discretion of the EC in accordance with the stipulated standards – upto 50%. He should also satisfy the EC for the balance through professional standard assessment.



AFFILIATES

5. Affiliate Membership shall be conferred on students who are currently studying for their Diploma in Psychology with a training organisation approved by the Executive Committee (EC) of the Institute of Professional Psychologists.



HONORARY MEMBERS

6. The Institute will confer Honorary Membership on not more than 3 persons in any one year based on the criteria that such persons have completed 15 or more years service in the field of psychology, together with outstanding services rendered in the field of Psychology.

Selections will be made by the Council at its sole discretion. An appointment to the class of Honorary Member will be made by invitation. Honorary Members shall come within the class of Corporate Member.
